 Unit 5

1. charlatan - noun   a person who pretends to have skills or knowledge that they do not have, especially in medicine
2. corroborate - verb   to add proof to an account, statement, idea, etc. with new information
3. disseminate - verb   to spread or give out something, especially news, information, ideas, etc., to a lot of people
4. diverge - verb   to follow a different direction, or to be or become different
5. dormant - adjective  

          (1)describes something that is not active or growing, but which has the ability to be active at a             later time
          (2) If something lies dormant, it is not active

     6.  hoist - verb     

          (1)to lift something heavy, sometimes using ropes or a machine

          (2)to raise a flag to the top of a pole using a rope

     7.  illicit - adjective    illegal or disapproved of by society

     8.  irrevocable - adjective    impossible to change

     9.  precipitate - verb  to make something happen suddenly or sooner than expected

   10.  proliferate - verb   to increase a lot and suddenly in number

Week Two

a. vocabulary

   Unit 1

1. detriment - the act of causing harm or damage; something that causes harm or damage
2. dexterous - skillful with your hands; skilfully done
3. discretion - 1.The quality of behaving or speaking in such a way as to avoid causing offence or                         revealing confidential information                                                                                               2.The freedom to decide what should be done in a particular situation
4. facetious - Treating serious issues with deliberately inappropriate humor; flippant
5. gregarious - (of people) liking to be with other people, or (especially of animals) living in groups
6. optimum -  best; most likely to bring success or advantage
7. ostentatious - adjective    too obviously showing your money, possessions or power, in an attempt to make other people notice and admire you
