Week Two

a. vocabulary

   Unit 1
  1. detriment - the act of causing harm or damage; something that causes harm or damage
  2. dexterous - skillful with your hands; skilfully done
  3. discretion - 1.The quality of behaving or speaking in such a way as to avoid causing offence or                         revealing confidential information                                                                                               2.The freedom to decide what should be done in a particular situation
  4. facetious - Treating serious issues with deliberately inappropriate humor; flippant
  5. gregarious - (of people) liking to be with other people, or (especially of animals) living in groups
  6. optimum -  best; most likely to bring success or advantage
  7. ostentatious - adjective    too obviously showing your money, possessions or power, in an attempt to make other people notice and admire you
  8. scrupulous - adjective   extremely honest, or doing everything correctly and exactly as it should be done
  9. sensory - adjective  connected with the physical senses of touch, smell, taste, hearing and seeing
  10. vicarious - adjective   experienced as a result of watching, listening to or reading about the activities of other people, rather than by doing the activities yourself
   Unit 2
    1. collaborate -

    4. despondent - adjective     unhappy and with no hope or enthusiasm because you feel you are in a difficult situation
    5. instigate - verb    to cause an event or situation to happen by making a set of actions or a formal process begin
    6. resilient - adjective   able to quickly return to a previous good condition
    7. retrospect - noun    thinking now about something in the past
    8. rudimentary - adjective

              (2)describes methods, equipment, systems, etc. that are simple and not very well developed
         7.  scoff - verb     to laugh and speak about a person or idea in a way which shows that you think               they are stupid or silly
         8.  squelch - verb   to make a sucking sound like the one produced when you are walking on soft             wet ground
         9.  venerate - verb  to honor or very much respect a person or thing
       10.  zealot - noun  a person who has very strong opinions about something, and tries to make other             people have them too
